Asia/Oceania Region Asia and Oceania represent the world’s largest and smallest landmasses, respectively. Asia covers more than 17 million square miles with a population of over 3.3 billion. Oceania covers only 3 million square miles with only 31 million in population. It is here that the major world religions were born including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Tao, and Shinto as well as others. The region consists of both urban and rural areas. Climates range between the extremes of desert, high mountain areas, jungles, fertile farm lands, very small islands and large urban centers. There are 17 of the world’s largest cities located in Asia. More than 194 cities claim populations of more than 1 million. These large population areas bring with them a vast variety of social problems which include, but are not limited to, poverty, HIV, high unemployment, high crime rates, lack of adequate housing and medical facilities, and insufficient medical care. Our regional theme, “Reaching Asia/Oceania for Eternity”, carries with it a deep burden to reach the lost in this vast part of the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of the nations in this region are not open to public meetings where the Gospel is preached and believers are discipled. Our focus is on urban outreach, as well as development and nurturing of our existing rural ministries. The urban outreach will take place through para-church activities that will address some of the many social problems that exist in the large cities. These efforts have proven to be a highly successful means of effective evangelism. We now have two Bible Schools operating in the region. There is a growing network of schools with a focus on Practical Ministry/Church Planting that are expanding very rapidly. Children, youth, and families are being given priority focus for our ministry. In some nations, 50% of their population are children and youth. At the present time, our ministry reaches into 17 nations and regions in this area of the world. They include:
Over 100 thousand church members are cared for and ministered to by our church leaders in the region. Our leadership structure consists of a General Presbyter, Area Finance Committee, Area Oversight Group, National Overseers, National Leadership Bodies, District Overseers, Pastors, and Local Church Leaders and Members. |
